The following products were collected from superfund (contaminated) sites in the Western United States and certified using USEPA SW846, 3rd Edition method 1311 Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) and the California Waste Extraction Method (WET). These methods are designed to replicate natural leaching from a contaminated site.

Analysis of eight metals specified by the TCLP was carried out according USEPA method 6010 (ICP-EOS), 6020 (ICP-MS) and 7000 (AES). Analysis of 10 extractable organic analytes was carried out by EPA methods 8081 (pesticides by GC), 8150 (herbicides by GC) and 8270 (semi-volatile organics by GC-MS).

WET is an acronym for Waste Extraction Test and is used in the classification of metals as hazardous waste. WET is often used interchangeably with “STLC” or “soluble” when referring to the amount of a metal is leachable, i.e “WET lead.” The correct scientific nomenclature is CAL-WET or California Waste Extraction Test as defined in CCR Title 22.

Results of the WET are compared to the Soluble Threhold Limit Concentration (STLC). The WET determined the amount of a specific constituent that can be leached from the soil using a solution designed to simulate landfill leaching.

The TCLP is a leaching procedure that uses a slightly less agressive leaching agent than is used by the WET.
