The BTEX in Soil Certified Reference Material (CRM) sample consists of a single sample vial containing approximately 30 grams of material. This soil is typical of that found in the backfill surrounding a leaking underground gasoline storage tank (LUST). Being an actual waste sample the analyst is challenged by the same preparation problems, analytical interferences, etc. as is typical for similar matrices received by the laboratory for analysis. Rigorous analyses identified, quantified, and certified the five compounds listed on the enclosed Certificate of Analysis. The sample has been analyzed by a multi-laboratory round robin to meet the requirements specified by the EPA/AALA RM-03, ISO Guides 34, and 35. The sample was certified by USEPA SW846, 3rd edition Method 5030A and 8021B or 8260B and is suitable for use by these and other similar methods. The sample has been tested and certified for intersample homogeneity.
