General Instructions
Ignite suitable crucibles at 600 °C ± 50 °C for 30 minutes, cool in a desiccator and weigh accurately.
Weigh accurately approximately 1 g of the test sample iinto the crucible.
Moisten with about 1 mL of sulfuric acid and heat gently by an appropriate method until the sample is thoroughly charred.
Cool then repeat with another portion of sulfuric acid (about 1 mL) until white fumes are no longer evolved.
Then ignite at 600 °C ± 50 °C until the residue is completely incinerated.
Calculate the % of residue.
**NOTE** Smaller quantities of test sample may be used.
